Earlier this month, students in DACC’s Dental Assisting Program had the unique opportunity to work with young children, gaining real-world experience in patient education and care. On February 13, a group of preschoolers visited the DACC lab, rotating through interactive stations led by seniors in the program.
Throughout the visit, DACC students introduced the preschoolers to dental equipment, taught them about proper oral hygiene, and engaged them in fun activities designed to make a visit to the dentist less intimidating. The hands-on experience allowed the high school students to refine their communication skills, practice patient interaction, and learn how to break down complex dental concepts into kid-friendly terms.
Beyond technical knowledge, the experience helped students develop essential skills such as patience, adaptability, and effective communication.
The visit was a success not only in reinforcing the children’s understanding of oral hygiene but also in helping DACC students feel more confident in their abilities to work with patients of all ages.
At DACC, hands-on learning is at the core of every program, ensuring students graduate with the skills, experience, and confidence they need to succeed in their careers. Events like this showcase the power of real-world learning and the impact of empowering, preparing, inspiring, and connecting.
