October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and the DACC Cybersecurity students want to make sure you are staying safe. Throughout the month of October, they will be sharing tips to maintain good cybersecurity hygiene. Follow them on Twitter for the latest tips and see the archived list here.

Tip #1: Install anti-virus software and keep it up-to-date.

Tip #2: Use multi-factor authentication whenever possible.

Tip #3: Setup and use a firewall on your computer.

Tip #4: Check and see if your email was involved in any data breaches. Go to http://haveibeenpwned.com

Tip #5: Use strong and unique passwords. A password manager is the best way to go about this. Brought to you by the students enrolled in the DACC Cybersecurity lab.

Tip #6: Watch out for malicious links! These can be in emails or on social media. Don’t click on anything you don’t 100% trust.

Tip #7: Update your devices regularly! New updates frequently have security patches that you don’t want to go without!

Tip #8: Always lie… when it comes to security questions! Make up the answers and store them in your password manager.

Tip #9: Never tell anyone your personal information online. They might use this information to figure out your password.

Tip #10: Keep track of your digital footprint by using the + trick in gmail to find out who’s leaking your data.

Tip #11: Don’t connect to public Wi-Fi when you are out. If you must connect DO NOT input banking information or passwords.

Tip #12: Never send sensitive information through chats, emails, or anything that isn’t encrypted.

Tip #13: Delete any social media accounts that you don’t use anymore.
