Early Childhood Education

In this program, you will work in our own preschool center, playing an essential role in caring for young children from the community. You will use research and creative problem-solving to deliver developmentally appropriate activities for young children.

Program Highlights:

  • Playing a positive role in a young child’s learning process

  • Create appropriate learning activities

  • Learn child guidance techniques

  • This program meets the standards of the Child Development Associate

  • National Credentialing Program (CDA)

  • Students may apply for the CDA credential upon successful completion

  • of CDA requirements

  • This program follows the standards from the National Association for t

    he Education of Young Children accreditation and the Early Learning

  • Content Standards for Pre-K children set by the State of Ohio

Areas of Study:

  • Research, create, and deliver developmentally appropriate materials

  • Plan engaging activities

  • Lesson planning and curriculum development

  • Child guidance and child abuse recognition and awareness

  • Observation and assessment of children

  • Administration of Early Childhood Programs

  • Literacy and storytelling

  • Create a safe and healthy learning environment

  • Explore the types of early childhood programs

  • Daycare licensing laws and preschool rules

  • Nutrition and food for young children and principles of development

  • CDA portfolio development

Credits Available:

  • 3 elective credits per year

  • College credits available through an articulation agreement at Columbus State Community College, COTC, and through Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAGs)

CTAGs are transferrable to Ohio public colleges. Credits vary per program.

Industry Credentials Available:

  • Child Development Associate Credential***

  • First Aid/CPR***

  • Communicable Disease***

  • Child Abuse Recognition***

  • Ohio Approved and Ohio Professional Development***

***Industry credential recognized by ODE for points toward graduation.

This program is participating in the Chromebook One to One Experience. An additional one-time fee to purchase a Chromebook will be waived if you are a returning student who has already participated in the Chromebook One to One Experience or if you are bringing your own technology.
