DACC student shows visitors class project

Visitors from the Japan External Trade Organization traveled from Chicago to tour the Engineering Technician program and talk to Instructor, Nick Steffen, about connecting his students with area Japan-owned businesses located in Ohio.

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. Their ultimate goal is to bring more visibility to Ohio engineering programs. “These students are the future of engineering,” shared a JETRO Representative.

According to JETRO, there are 7-8 Japan-owned companies within thirty minutes of DACC and roughly 800 Japan-owned manufacturing companies in Ohio. “The HR Managers at these businesses don’t know what local assets are available to them and the students don’t know that the companies exist.”

Steffen, added, “With two Engineering teachers, it’s hard to reach out to so many businesses. It’s valuable to have companies like JETRO that are focused on making those connections.”
