DACC Staff Spotlight: Kim Castrodale, Heath Technology & Nursing Instructor

Kim Castrodale is finishing her 10th. Before DACC, she was a missionary in Africa focusing on providing clean drinking water through wells and filtration, education in building libraries and meeting medical needs through clinics, and sponsoring children to receive necessary surgeries.

Kim loves seeing her students succeed out in the workforce. “It makes me happy to hear a friend or colleague say, ‘I had one of your students care for me and they did a great job!’ I enjoy learning that my students have gone on to accomplish great goals. To know I helped to build their foundation and inspire them is very rewarding. It’s one of my greatest ‘whys’.”

Kim has 4 children: Emily 26; Preston, 25; Natalie, 23; Daniel, 21 (2 are nurses) and 1 grandson, Christopher. “My favorite thing in the world right now is seeing his little face shine and run for me screaming ‘Mimi’ with his arms open wide!” Kim also enjoys spending time with her 86-year-old father who recently moved back to Ohio. She hopes to find some good fishing spots with him this summer.

Kim and her husband Jim enjoy live performances and try to go to a Broadway, Palace Theater or Ohio Theater show a couple times every year (favorites have been Lion King, Wicked and Phantom of the Opera). They also enjoy concerts (favorites are PINK, Maroon 5, Michael Buble and Hugh Jackman) and love the Blue Jackets.

Kim also enjoys traveling. Her favorite vacation involves a beach! Her family will be taking a vacation together in Myrtle Beach and she and her husband will get away to St Lucia this summer.

She loves flowers, gardening and working in the yard, as well as reading, working on puzzles and spending time with her family/friends. She’s a foodie and loves to try new restaurants and recipes. Kim also likes to go to the movie theater and really appreciates a good horror film.

Favorite quote: “Be the nurse you would want as a patient.”
