DACC Staff Spotlight: Brad DeMent, Welding & Sheet Metal Fabrication Instructor

Brad DeMent is in his 10th year at DACC. When he worked in industry, he welded and fabricated top fuel dragsters and funny cars that raced on the top circuit of the National Hot Rod Association. He also welded and fabricated custom cryogenic equipment for NASA and other government agencies.

His favorite teaching memory is the Welding students collaborating with the Auto Collison students and winning the SkillsUSA National Championship 3 years in a row. His students have also built a pumpkin chunkin’ trebuchet for a few years and won the state championship for 4 years in a row. “I am pretty competitive, so it’s great to see my students get competitive and be successful.”

Brad and his wife have a 6-year-old Lab-Pit mix, named Dixie. Dixie loves golf cart rides, ice cream, farming, and sleeping.

When not teaching at DACC, Brad teaches welding at Columbus State. He also coordinates/teaches the DACC Adult Education Welding classes in the evenings. On the weekends, he operates Brad’s Welding by completing small welding and fabrication jobs within the community.
