DACC Staff Spotlight: Tina Francis, Career Based Intervention, Buckeye Valley Middle School

Tina Francis is in her 14th year at DACC. Her previous experience includes retail business management, secretarial, US Army, and a high school teacher in credit recovery.

Tina enjoys working on service projects with her students, “specifically, the annual Veterans Assembly at Buckeye Valley Middle School where veterans are given a standing ovation that literally lasts close to 10 minutes while they enter the gymnasium for the assembly. Students, staff and guests stand when they see the first veterans and do not sit until the last ones are in. More than 100 veterans plus their families attend this event.”

Tina joined the US Army Reserves at age 27, after already having a bachelor's in education and a teaching certificate. “I enjoyed my time immensely and learned so much. I always talk to my students and my own kids about seizing those opportunities and to look at the bigger picture. There are so many avenues to learning about careers: volunteering, career tech programs, internships, the military, college, and more.”

Tina has two children, ages 16 and 19, a Lab-Retriever mix named Piper and 2 cats, Misty and Milo.

When not teaching, Tina enjoys cooking, reading, traveling, and organizing social and volunteer events.
