Next to Normal

A powerful and acclaimed musical exploring mental health, family relationships, and resilience is coming to downtown Delaware this October.

Presented by Arena Fair Theatre, Next to Normal follows a suburban family navigating the challenges of bipolar disorder, grief, and everyday life. The groundbreaking rock musical earned three Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for its honest and innovative portrayal of mental illness.

The production is partnering with NAMI Mid-Ohio to help raise awareness and connect community members with resources. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the organization, and local mental health providers will be available in the theater lobby during performances to share information and support services.

While the subject matter is serious, Next to Normal is known for balancing emotional depth with humor, hope, and powerful music. The production features a talented cast, live musicians, and a story that has resonated with audiences around the world.

The show is directed by Brian White, Mathematics Instructor at Delaware Area Career Center, who is active in the local theater community.

Performances will be held at the Willis Theater, 74 W. William St., Delaware:

  • Friday, October 16, at 7 p.m.

  • Saturday, October 17, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Sunday, October 18, at 2 p.m.

Because the production addresses themes of mental illness, bereavement, and includes strong language, it is recommended for audiences ages 13 and older.
