As interest in career and technical education continues to grow, the Delaware Area Career Center (DACC) is planning several new opportunities for students beginning in the 2027-2028 school year.
Following the recent expansion of its Cosmetology program, DACC plans to add new programs in Electrical Trades, Veterinary Science, and Teacher Academy, and expand its Clinical Medical Assisting program with a second section to serve more students.
The additions are part of DACC's ongoing efforts to respond to student interest, workforce trends, and industry demand throughout Delaware County and Central Ohio.
"One of the things we take seriously is making sure our program offerings align with both student interests and workforce opportunities," said Alicia Mowry, spokesperson for the district. "When we consider adding a program, we're looking at enrollment trends, employment data, and input from our business and industry partners to ensure students have access to meaningful career pathways."
Before recommending a new program, DACC reviews:
Student interest and enrollment trends
Current and projected workforce needs
Employment opportunities available after high school and postsecondary education
Input from local employers, advisory committees, and industry professionals
The new programs reflect several high-demand career sectors identified through that process.
Electrical Trades
Students will gain hands-on experience in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems while learning safety, wiring, troubleshooting, blueprint reading, and electrical code requirements. Career pathways include electrician, electrical apprentice, industrial maintenance technician, and related trades.
Veterinary Science
Students will explore animal health, veterinary procedures, laboratory techniques, and animal care while developing technical skills needed for careers in veterinary medicine and animal sciences. Career pathways include veterinary assistant, veterinary technician, animal care specialist, and additional opportunities through postsecondary education.
Clinical Medical Assisting Expansion
Due to continued student interest in healthcare careers, DACC plans to add a second section of Clinical Medical Assisting. Students in the program learn patient care, medical terminology, clinical procedures, electronic health records, laboratory testing, and healthcare communication while preparing for industry credentials and careers in the healthcare field.
Teacher Academy
DACC also plans to introduce a Teacher Academy program designed to help students explore careers in education and address growing interest in teaching and youth development professions.
In addition to creating opportunities for high school students, these programs support DACC's broader role as a career readiness resource for partner school districts. Many programs provide opportunities for elementary and middle school students to explore careers through campus visits, career awareness activities, summer camps, and hands-on experiences.
Over the past decade, DACC's on-campus enrollment has grown by 94%, increasing from 725 students in 2015-16 to over 1,400 students in 2026-27. The district continues to evaluate ways to expand opportunities for students while aligning programs with workforce needs and community interests.
