HOSA State

Congratulations to all of our HOSA statewide competitors. The competition took place April 8th – 10th and brought together future health professionals from across Ohio. DACC is proud to have five students advancing to the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Nashville this June, and 17 others placing in the top ten of their events.

Among the national qualifiers is Mehraan Khan, who captured 1st place in Dental Terminology. His preparation was rigorous, but he felt confident. “The competition textbooks had two volumes, just filled with highlighted terms,” he said. “But over time, the pieces started to click. With these kinds of competitions, you get what you put in. If you put in the time and effort, you’ll see the results.”

Fellow Dental Assisting student Paige Keller earned 2nd in Respiratory Therapy and went as far as changing her summer travel plans to make room for nationals. “I was really nervous because I didn’t know what skill they’d pick until I got there,” she said. “But preparing with friends made it a fun and supportive experience.”

Travis Tran, a Pharmacy Technician student, earned first place when he spoke from the heart in his speech on “Power by People.” Inspired by his mother’s battle with cancer, Travis drew from what he knew. “It was scary, but I’m glad I took that leap of faith,” he said.

Another Pharmacy Technician student, Natalie Koschalk, described her second-place finish in Pharmacy Science as “surreal.” “I walked out thinking I’d messed up,” she admitted. “I was shocked to place.” Now she’s prepping daily for nationals while looking ahead to a future in pharmaceutical sciences at Ohio State University.

The DACC team also includes Yusra Ali, who earned 2nd place in Dental Terminology, rounding out the list of students headed to Nashville this summer for the international stage.
