SkillsUSA

On November 14th and 15th, our very own SkillsUSA officers took part in the Regional Fall Leadership Conference. This event brings together thousands of students from all across Ohio. They traveled to the Downtown Columbus Convention Center to attend a variety of different lectures and presentations. The conference offered a diverse range of lectures and presentations tailored to help students refine essential skills for their future. Among the sessions were a time management workshop, a “How to Decide Your Future Career” seminar and a business and management class. To kick off the event, the current Regional Officers hosted a memorable welcome ceremony filled with longstanding SkillsUSA traditions. “Seeing all the red jackets together in one place was very inspiring and created an atmosphere of opportunities, learning and leadership,” remarked Mrs. Kohl.

Additionally, on the second day of the conference, Jadyn Parrish introduced her campaign for the Regional Office. Standing confidently before a crowd of voting delegates, she delivered a very touching speech. Her fellow officers—Eliza Finley, Laura Church, Ellie Rockwell, Grady Fuller, and Ailin Kenenbaeva—were in full support.“It was very nerve-racking; we were all really confident in Jadyn because her speech was amazing, but we just wanted to make sure we get as many people as possible to vote for her” -Grady Fuller. Their efforts paid off, and Jadyn secured one of the seven coveted Central Regional Officer positions. “I’m so grateful for my voting delegates especially Grady and Ailin for going around and making sure every one of the delegates took a look at my campaign,” Jadyn Parrish said. The outcome was a success and all thanks to the hard work and tight dynamic of all the officers.

While the voting process was taking place the rest of the officers were learning more about expanding their career paths and participated in a speed networking course. “The speed networking event gave me so many ideas about how to connect with professionals in my field,” noted Maryangela Akpede. The purpose of the course was to enhance communication skills, which is a crucial skill in any workplace.

A special shoutout goes to Mr. Andres, who attended his first Fall Leadership Conference this year. When Mrs. Kohl was unavailable on the second day, he took the lead in guiding our officers. “I really enjoyed being in charge,” Mr. Andres shared. “All of the officers were extremely prepared and responsible, which made my job much easier.”

The conference was a memorable experience for all that attended. Our SkillsUSA officers not only represented our chapter with pride but also left their mark on the regional stage.
