Accentuating Alumni - Lauren Burke

Lauren Burke leveraged her DACC Agricultural Science education to create a dynamic career as a Geospatial Engineer in the United States Army. A graduate of Buckeye Valley High School and the Buckeye Valley DACC’s Agricultural Science program in 2020, Lauren's journey from high school to the military is a testament to the power of career and technical education.

After completing basic training, Lauren underwent 20 weeks of specialized training, mastering the art of interpreting geographic information, satellite imagery, and soil data. This expertise now plays a crucial role in crafting maps for military and humanitarian efforts. Post-military, Lauren plans to continue making her mark in the geospatial engineering sector.

Reflecting on her time at DACC, Lauren credits Career Development Events for honing her public speaking skills, making her a confident communicator. Her agricultural knowledge, especially in soil and climate, is invaluable, often making her the go-to person for analyzing ground conditions affecting military missions. “It's rewarding to see my agricultural background recognized as an asset in such critical operations,” she notes.

Lauren’s advice to DACC students highlights the ubiquitous nature of agriculture: “Agriculture isn’t just about farming; it's at the core of our daily lives—from the food we eat to the homes we live in. Understanding this science opens doors to significant contributions across various fields.”
