DACC BIg Walnut State Parliamentary Procedure

Students in the Big Walnut – DACC Agricultural Education program recently competed in the State Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event (CDE) on December 2, 2017. The event was sponsored by the Ohio FFA Foundation and was hosted in Kottman Hall at The Ohio State University. In the Novice division, the team placed second in their state preliminary round. Students in the Advanced division placed first in their state preliminary round and fifth in the state finals.

In this event, students take a written test about Robert’s Rules of Order and complete a demonstration of parliamentary law. For the demonstration, students are given main motions and required parliamentary abilities to perform while debating proposals and coming to a conclusion as a team. At the conclusion of the presentation, students also responded to oral questions about parliamentary procedure from a panel of judges.

Members of the Novice team were: President, Avery Wager; Vice President, Justin Hill; Secretary, Maggie McDermott; Treasurer, Zane Sarcheck; Reporter, Mark Ruffing; Sentinel, Antonio Hattaway; Student Advisor, Luke Chiles; Member, Payton Staufer and was coached by Ms. Bobbi Baldner-Hill. The Advanced team was comprised of President, Liz Ansel; Secretary, Madi Withrow; Members, Gabby Adair, Caleb Durheim, Lex Marvin, and Rachel Sherman; and Alternate, Heather Cade.
