Three New Administrators Join DACC

August 15, 2013

The Delaware Area Career Center is kicking off the 2013-2014 school year with three new administrators to take over roles for those who have retired. Steve Fujii, Kris Lucas, and Kelley Barber will be working at the DACC’s north campus.

Steve Fujii is the Building Director at DACC’s north campus. He came to know DACC through his six years with the Big Walnut Local School District where he served on the administrative team, most recently as the High School Principal. However, his knowledge of career-technical education started even earlier when he served as the Assistant Principal of South-Western Career Academy. “The Delaware Area Career Center is an exciting place for me because I believe it represents everything that is right in education,” explained Fujii. “I have personally seen the difference that DACC has made in students’ lives, so I am honored to play a part in that process.” Fujii continues to live in the Big Walnut Local School District with his wife and two children.

Kris Lucas is the Academic Supervisor/Assistant Director for the North Campus. She has worked in education for the last eighteen years and is looking forward to starting a new journey in career-technical education. Lucas added, “The emphasis that career-technical education puts on preparing students for lifelong learning and their future career creates an energy that is contagious among our staff and student body. I have already had the pleasure of meeting so many students who are focused and ready to work towards their long-term goals.”  Lucas’ experience includes serving on the administrative team in the Upper Arlington and Olentangy Local School Districts. Prior to that, she taught for Circleville City and Franklin Heights. Lucas resides in Lewis Center with her husband and blended family of seven children.

Kelley Barber also comes to the Delaware Area Career Center with a familiarity of the various districts that the school serves. Over the last thirteen years, she has worked with students from Buckeye Valley, Big Walnut, and Olentangy. According to Barber, joining the Delaware Area Career Center feels like coming home because she will continue to work with these districts in her new role as the Student Services Supervisor. Her career in education has spanned twenty years, during which time she has focused on special education in various capacities, including administrative roles such as Special Education Coordinator and Director of Special Education.

Dale Hayes, former South Campus Building Director will be retiring in January, 2014. He will be spending the next few months working on special projects and assisting the new administrators in their roles. Mike Miller, formerly the North Campus Program Supervisor, retired at the end of the 2013/2014 school year. Joining him in retirement is Anne Wisniowski, formerly the Pupil Services Supervisor. Mary Titus, former North Building Director will serve the district as the South Building Director.

“We are thrilled to have Steve, Kris, and Kelley on our team,” explains Mary Beth Freeman, Superintendent at the Delaware Area Career Center. “They have been working diligently all summer to prepare for the upcoming school year and I couldn’t be more impressed with their dedication to learning everything they can about career-technical education. Each one brings an impressive array of leadership skills that supports career and college preparation for our students.”
