Instructor, Josh Gallagan, Given 'Excellence In Teaching' Award

May 11, 2010

Our very own Josh Gallagan was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Delaware Rotary on May 10th, 2010. The award recognizes the commitment and tireless dedication exhibited by teachers and honors an outstanding teacher from the elementary, middle and high school levels within their service area.

Josh was nominated by Delaware Area Career Center staff, Kelly Kohl, Jackie Johnson and Dale Hayes. A common theme among the letters written to nominate Josh is that he continuously goes above and beyond to provide his students with the best education and experiences possible. He offers his own free time to plan and support events that benefit the students and he thinks creatively when it comes to meeting the needs of diverse learning styles.

Josh has been with DACC for four years, teaching Information Technology - Media and Digital Video.

The criteria that the Delaware Rotary considers when reviewing nominations include that the teacher:

  • Instills in students a desire to learn
  • Understands the individual needs of students, encourages their talents and fosters self-esteem
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of subject matter or area of responsibility and the ability to engage students in quality schoolwork
  • Has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and co-workers
  • Shows evidence of continued interest in teaching by taking advantage of additional educational opportunities
  • Participates in community activities that support students as well as the school

Congratulations Josh! We are very lucky to have you here at the Delaware Area Career Center.
