DACC Students Participate in Live Burn

May 19, 2010

Earlier this month, qualified adult education students and high school seniors in the Fire Service program participated in a rare opportunity – a live burn. A house that would have been scheduled for demolition was donated to DACC for hands-on training that will prove invaluable for these students.

The house itself is divided into quadrants where individual fires are started that predetermined groups of students work together to put out. Throughout the process, instructors are not only on-hand and involved, they work through a systematic process to insure they know the whereabouts of every student at all times.

Thanks to volunteer firefighters from the area and our Delaware Area Career Center instructors for their time and dedication that made this opportunity possible.
