Delaware Area Career Center superintendent Pat Foor submits letter of resignation

August 2007

On August 16, the Delaware Area Career Center Board of Education will accept Superintendent Pat Foor’s letter of resignation effective July 31st, 2008. Foor has served as the superintendent since December, 1999. The Board will begin a search for her successor in the coming months.

The Delaware Area Career Center programs and student body have grown tremendously under Foor’s watch. The district has added new programs such as: Teacher Academy, Dental Assisting, Career Based Intervention Programs in all districts, Manufacturing Technologies, Electrical Technologies, Automotive Essentials, Sophomore Focused Programs, Zoo School, Microsoft Information Technologies, and Summer Middle School Camps. The current enrollment shows a 8% increase from last year’s numbers at this time.

Foor has also invested in her staff by improving the technology infrastructure, imbedding professional development into teachers’ work days, expanding adult education, and enhancing marketing and recruiting efforts to increase enrollment.

The district also enjoys stable funding after the passage of the 10-year renewal levy in 2005. Some of that funding is being used for renovation/expansion at North Campus located on Kilbourne Road in Delaware. Planning is underway for South Campus renovations located on Route 23 south of Delaware.

Most significantly, the Delaware Area Career Center name was created under Foor’s supervision. This transformation from the Delaware JVS has improved the center’s image in the community and throughout the state.

The Delaware Area Career Center not only improved its image; it improved its performance as well under Foor. In 06-07, the center earned the highest total percentage points on performance measures among the 49 career centers. They have also been recognized as 1 of 17 high schools in the country who have made significant gains in student achievement. The International Center for Leadership in Education chose Delaware Area Career Center as 1 of 4 career centers in the state to participate in the Successful Practices Network.

Foor credited the staff in her resignation letter. “The staff members deserve the credit for these and many more accomplishments we have achieved.” She also thanked the board for their support. “These 8 years have been the most rewarding of my professional career. You have allowed me to reach out and be actively involved in local, regional and state organizations to network and keep abreast of future trends and current issues and seek resources to have Delaware Area Career Center recognized throughout Ohio and the nation for our efforts.”

Foor’s plans to start her retirement by relaxing, traveling, and spending time with her family, which includes eleven grandchildren.
