Senior Gallery Event

Shane2As we're coming up on the end of the year, our lab is getting ready for something known as a Senior Gallery Event. All of the seniors in our lab gather up some of their best work from the past two years, and get it ready to present at this event. This is a great chance for everyone to showcase their work, and for the community to come and look at what we have done.

For this event next month, I have made a website that shows a portfolio and description of all of the websites I have made, and have been printing poster size pictures of some of the photos I have taken. Some other students are doing video portfolio reels, tutorials, or even new client projects to add to their portfolio.

Nationals!

Shane2We did it! You've seen me write a lot about a competition my team is in called Business Professionals of America (BPA), and at our state competition a couple of weeks ago, we placed first in the state of Ohio.

That means that we get to go to Nationals later this month, which is held in Chicago! But we're not done yet, we still have a lot of work to do. Part of this includes taking the feedback from the States judges, and improving our site and presentation. Nationals is in about 3 weeks, so we have from now until then to perfect our presentation and get everything ready!

Getting to participate at Nationals is a big deal, and we are all putting a lot of work into everything we do.

Our BPA Site Is Done!

Shane2After several months of hard work, my team and I are finally done with our BPA site, My Healthy Nation. This site is designed to help you live a healthy lifestyle, and has several community-like features. I've talked to many people about it, and they are all amazed that a team of high school seniors were able to make something like that. If you would like, you can head over to www.myhealthynation.org to see what we've been working on.

Our competition is next week, and I'll be sure to let you all know about all of the fun there!

BPA Competition

Shane2Wow! It's been a while since I've posted on here. In some of my earlier posts, I talked about how we were all working on senior projects. Well we've finished those up, and are now working on BPA (Business Professionals of America) projects. The class is divided into teams (and in some cases, individuals), who are all working on a separate project for BPA.

American Red Cross

Shane2This week, I attended the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast and was invited to help record video for and photograph the event. The event itself lasted only about 2 or 3 hours, but there was a great deal of planning involved.

Over the past month, Patrick and I have been increasing our skills with the Tricaster, which is a piece of hardware that allows you to do a live video production (basically editing video right there on the spot). Along with the Tricaster, we also used 3 HD Video Cameras, and hundreds of feet of cable to create a setup that would work for this project.

DACC Presents us with Great Opportunities

Shane2While attending the career center for just about two years, I have been presented with many real life job opportunities and internships that relate to my career field in Information Technology. And this isn't just happening to me - several other people in my lab, as well as other labs have experienced this, too. Jobs with design companies, internships with the Blue Jackets... some of us have had the opportunity to do some amazing things like this.

Back to school!

As you probably know, school started just a couple of weeks ago, and I'm excited to be back! Yeah I know, I never thought I would say those words, but it’s true. Last year was great, and I'm looking forward to having another awesome year. Coming to the Career Center is probably the best part about my entire high school career. Not only are you in an environment with the latest technology and learning tools, but you're in a class full of kids who share the same passion as you, and let me tell you something, that really makes a big difference (and I'm talking about all the labs, not just ITA, which I'm in). We are all there for the same purpose, and that is to learn more about information technology and media. It's kind of like a little family there, all helping each other out with the various projects and assignments. Right now we're all working on our senior projects, and it's really interesting to see what everybody is doing.

Already looking ahead to senior projects

I’d have to say that my junior year at the Delaware Area Career Center has been pretty awesome, and I’m sure my senior year will be even better. During the junior year, we learned the basics of everything we do: graphic design, photography, audio, and everything else. It’s a great way to let us all find out what we love to do the best. For some, its video production, for others, its something else. Your choice. For me, web design is my favorite area.
