February is Career and Technical Education Month. With the theme of Opportunities for Career Success, we want to highlight our Career and Technical Student Organizations. These organizations give our students leadership experience and the opportunity to apply their skills to real-world projects. Students compete against the best of the best at the local, regional, state, and national level.
Business Professionals of America (BPA) is the leading Career Technical Student Organization for students interested in management, office administration, information technology, and other related fields. Both Digital Design and Networking students participate in BPA.

How did you get involved in BPA?
During our junior year, the whole class got involved in the competition and we all raised money to help support whoever makes it on to states and nationals.
What did you compete in at regionals?
I competed as part of a team in the Web Design competition. We built a web site focusing on substance abuse and sharing helpful resources and facts about drug and alcohol abuse.
My team took first place at regionals, so we are headed to the statewide competition. We are adding videos to replace some of the written content on the site and incorporating more resources.
What do you want to do when you graduate?
I’d like to go to college for graphic design. I’ve already applied to a few schools and I’m just waiting now to see if I’ve been accepted. My dream job would be to work for an advertising and design firm in a big city.
How has BPA helped prepare you for life after high school?
Being in BPA has taught me how to work as a team in a professional setting. Everyone has a different role and it’s important to listen to what each person has to say. Giving speeches and interviewing with the judges has also helped me a lot.
