Facilities

Delaware Area Career Center, located in Delaware County, includes two facilities 7.5 miles apart. The North Campus is located on the east side of the City of Delaware, ½ mile off State Route 36/37 at State Route 521; the South Campus is located south of the City of Delaware on U.S. Route 23 (approximately 12 miles north of I-270).

Each campus is approximately 50 acres in size. The North Campus career and technical laboratories and classrooms cover 77,640 square feet. Within that area are the labs used for Fire Service and EMT long- and short term training programs. These programs are directed under a charter from the Ohio Division of Public Service.

The fire service lab is 60 feet by 100 feet and 24 feet high. In addition, there are two changing areas and an office. Outside on the grounds, there is a training center with a fire training tower, a pond, flashover simulation unit, burn simulation unit, boxcars and space to set up for practicing various techniques. The school has two fire trucks to use in training as well as an ambulance. Arrangements are made to share equipment with the local fire departments when specialized equipment not owned by the Delaware Area Career Center is needed.

The EMT program shares the high school technologies lab (HT) and some of the equipment. The lab is 60 feet by 24 feet and includes an office, changing area and equipment storage. Agreements with the local EMS allow the program to use equipment the Delaware Area Career Center does not own.

Resources for the two safety programs are also shared among the EMS, the fire departments and the Delaware Area Career Center. There are PowerPoint presentations, videos and instructional materials available in the fire-service lab for use by the instructors in the fire and EMT classes. Internet access is also available throughout the facility.

The Child Development preparation program utilizes North Campus classrooms, training facilities and computer labs. Child Development students are also taken outside to local childcare facilities and supporting businesses to get a firsthand look at the industry.

The Adult Welding Program and the offices of Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) are also housed on the North Campus.

ABLE, GED preparation classes, ESOL classes, and citizenship classes are held at the South Campus. GED testing is also held at the North Campus. The South Campus facility houses the Law Enforcement Academy, CISCO Networking Academy, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Human Resource Development classes (including Management and Supervision classes), Computerized Office Support Training (COST), Hospitality On-Site Training (HOST), Small Business Development classes and the Pharmacy Tech Program.

The Law Enforcement Academy is housed in a state-of-the-art, 15,000 square-foot space that allows 24/7 access. This space includes a dispatching room, two classrooms, a forensic laboratory, both driving and shooting simulators and a physical fitness center. The Ohio Peace Officer Training Council has approved the program and the instructors are from area departments, the State of Ohio or the State Highway Patrol.

The CISCO Networking Academy houses the CCNA laboratories. The CCNA lab has 29 computer workstations running Windows 2000 or Windows NT. This lab has ten CISCO 2500 routers and five CISCO Catalyst 1900 switches, along with transceivers, hubs and supporting equipment.

The Dental Assisting Lab consists of five fully equipped dental operatories, an X-ray area containing a panorex X-ray unit, a regular X-ray unit, automatic and manual processors and a laboratory setting. The Health Technologies lab is also utilized for the Nurse Aid Training Program.

Computer application classes are held at the South Campus in various computer labs. The Adult Education computer lab has 16 computers with both Windows XP and Windows 2000 capability. All computers in the facility have Windows XP and Internet access through either a wired or wireless network.

The opportunity for distance learning is relatively new, but the equipment is in place for that delivery system to occur.

In addition to the two Delaware Area Career Center campuses, the Adult Education program has a partnership with the Ohio School for the Deaf for shared space to hold classes.
